The Roman Association
The Roman Association is the alumni association for ‘Old Romans’, men who have studied at the VEC.
The Roman Association and Roman Association CIO
The Association of the Venerable College of St Thomas de Urbe held its first Annual Meeting in 1865 in Birkenhead. It exists to preserve College friendships and also to support the College. The first aim is responded to by the Annual General Meeting which takes place either at Palazzola or on England, as well as the various Martyrs’ Day gatherings held around 1st December. Over the years Martyrs’ Day celebrations have brought Old Romans together at various locations in England as well as in Ireland, the United States, Malta and Gibraltar. Membership of the Association is open to anyone who has studied within the walls of the College. Thus, besides those ordained and in active ministry, members are welcome from those who left before ordination, those who are no longer in active ministry and members of the Anglican Exchange.
Registered as a Charity No. 1085919, the Roman Association CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation, Number 1191795) serves as the endowment fund for the Old Romans. The Old Romans set up a capital fund of £1 million during the 1990s. The Trust is an endowment fund set up to support specific projects that benefit the College and the students. Each year the Trust makes a substantial donation to the College. Recently it covered the cost of a new gym.
The Roman Association CIO seeks the help of Old Romans and friends of the College to continue to help endow the College.
