Bursaries
Those who live in the seminary are acutely aware of the privileges that come with being in the heart of Rome.
The cost of training in Rome is comparable with what it is in the UK. Nevertheless, more men — and not just from England and Wales — could train in Rome if circumstances allowed.
To that end, we have set up a bursary fund to help those dioceses that might otherwise not consider Rome as a first choice for their seminarians.
Student welfare
The seminarians spend long hours in prayer and study. They are also encouraged to take on extra-curricular activities in their leisure time by visiting Rome and other parts of Italy.
The cost of books and travel can sometimes be a constraint, and some men struggle to find the funds.
Donations towards student welfare would go a long way to helping some seminarians’ experience of their time at Rome and in Italy.
Specific projects
We are hoping to have a bust made of the Holy Father, Pope Francis. The community has had a chance to meet him and we want to commemorate the event. The work will cost in the region of €25,000.
The VEC is in constant need of maintenance, being more than 650 years old. We are looking for around €20,000 to help pay for the rebuilding of the tiled floors.
The Wifi has recently been improved. To further improve the internet connection, we are looking to raise some €5,000 to upgrade the network cables.
